Black & Minority Ethnic Mental Health
Diverse Minds, Healthy Bodies Projects at TACMEP
Tendring and Colchester Minority Ethnic Partnership (TACMEP), a registered charity, founded by black and ethnic minority (BME) individuals & actively supported by statutory organisations, is the only organisation in the Colchester & Tendring area solely committed to the welfare of black and minority ethnic communities. We provide help and advice to people of all ages affected by issues such as domestic violence, isolation, racism, language barriers, housing and welfare rights.
Within TACMEP the Diverse Minds, Healthy Bodies Project, supported by MIND and funded by NEEssex PCT, aims to support the physical and mental wellbeing of BME communities.
We aim to empower BME communities through a variety of ways, including;
- facilitating the development of self-supporting groups and committees;
- training 'Health Champions' to deliver health awareness information to their communities;
- providing exercise classes, social groups, workshops, and training courses;
- Being a 'critical friend' to statutory bodies to ensure that BME community needs are considered during the development/implementation of services;
- Organising inclusive cultural events - such as Celebrate! Diverse Cultures Festival & Family Fun Day
